About this product

A washed Kenyan coffee where vibrant acidity meets juicy berry clarity and refined, tea-like sweetness.

Grown in Kiambu County, northwest of Nairobi, this coffee comes from the producers of the Gitare Washing Station, part of the Kimaratia Farmers’ Cooperative Society. High elevations, cool temperatures, and fertile volcanic soils provide ideal conditions for producing coffees with remarkable clarity, structure, and complexity.

Most producers cultivate small plots planted primarily with the celebrated SL28 and SL34 varieties alongside Batian and Ruiru 11. Coffee remains an important source of income for the community, with many farmers also growing avocados and macadamias alongside their coffee trees.

Following harvest, carefully selected cherries undergo Kenya’s renowned washed process before being slowly dried on raised beds. This meticulous approach preserves the coffee’s transparency and allows its origin character to shine in the cup.

In the cup, notes of cranberry, blood orange, and raisin are supported by lively acidity and elegant sweetness. Structured, expressive, and beautifully composed, Gitare showcases the qualities that have made Kenyan coffee one of the world’s most distinctive and celebrated origins.

Gitare reflects the enduring strengths of Kenyan coffee—volcanic terroir, careful processing, and the dedication of the farming communities who continue to shape its reputation around the world.

How to brew

We recommend starting with a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio using 18 grams of coffee to 288 grams of water.

For Gitare AB, our preferred brewing method is the Origami Dripper, which highlights the coffee’s vibrant acidity, juicy fruit character, and refined tea-like sweetness.

Start with a medium grind and aim for a total brew time of around 2:45–3:15 minutes. Small adjustments can reveal new layers of cranberry, blood orange, and raisin while preserving the coffee’s remarkable clarity and structure.

Structured, expressive, and beautifully composed, Gitare rewards careful brewing with a cup that is both vibrant and balanced.
